Our History
The Space Movement Project is all-female contemporary dance collective celebrating its 10th anniversary season. An active member of the Chicago dance community, TSMP has presented original works at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, The Dance Center, Columbia College Chicago, Hamlin Park Fieldhouse, Links Hall, Roosevelt University and the Prop Theater. The company has appeared in numerous local performance events including the Chicago Fringe Festival, PRODUCE, Dance Union, Bodies in Urban Spaces and Chicago Home Theater Festival. TSMP has also appeared at Beloit College (Wisconsin), the Festival Internacional Teatro Susana Alexander (Mexico), the Joyce SoHo A.W.A.R.D. Show All-Stars (New York), the Cincinnati Fringe Festival (Ohio), Durham Arts Council (North Carolina). TSMP is a founding collaborator of GRUNT, a grassroots touring initiative that supports mid-career artists in developing opportunities to curate and present work locally and nationally
Recent commended performances include:
Bottom’s Edge (2015, IL) Commissioned by the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) contemporary dance series, SpinOff at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion stage at Millennium Park.
The Collecting Place (2013, IL) Commissioned by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Performed in the Yates Gallery at the Chicago Cultural Center with artist Shawn Decker’s visual sound installation On The Prairie. Works also appeared at the Festival Internacional Teatro Susana Alexander in Puebla, Mexico and at Hamlin Park Fieldhouse in Chicago.
Kiss Kiss Missiles (2012, IL) alongside world-class dance companies as part of The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago Spring Performing Arts Season (2011-2012) as grant recipients from the MetLife Foundation/Audience Architects New Stages for Dance Initiative.
